"Big Spin® 2000" Contestants Win $507,500 Actor Trevor Goddard Presents "Hero In Education" Award

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, June 3, 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $507,500.

Enid Wizig has been a volunteer at the Echo Horizon School for the past 24 years. Echo Horizon School educates hearing and hearing-impaired students in an inclusive environment. Wizig interacts with hearing-impaired students sending a clear message that hearing loss doesn't limit a person's ability to lead a full and productive life. Wizig lost her hearing from whooping cough when she was and infant and knows the hardships of growing up without the ability to hear. She attended Central Institute for the Deaf in St. Louis and by the age of 11 entered public school in Los Angeles. Wizig graduated from college and began a successful career as an animator at Warner Bros. Studios, rendering familiar faces like Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Actor Trevor Goddard, who is best known for his portrayal of Commander Mic Brumby on JAG, presented Wizig with the "Hero In Education" award.

Fantasy 5^TM contestants won big on the Big Spin® 2000 Dream Machine. Karen Zgunda, an instructional aide from Alta Loma was the show's top Fantasy 5^TM winner with a $95,000 prize and plans to put a down payment on a home with the prize money. Other contestants included Richard White, a retired estimator from Spring Valley who won $65,000 and Kerry Dorsey from Vacaville who won $40,000.

Aptos resident Lloyd Depedro was this week's top California Gold winner. Depedro, a semi-retired county manager, won $225,000 and was elated. Other California Gold contestants won $22,500.

Castro Valley resident Collin Lillegard was this week's Spin-Spin-Spin contestant. Lillegard won $60,000 and plans to use his prize money as a down payment on a house.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 6.6 percent for operating and game expenses, which includes 6.9 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
