"Big Spin® 2000" Contestants Win $230,000

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, May 20, 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $230,000.

Fantasy 5™ contestants won big on the Big Spin® 2000 Dream Machine. John Stewart of Reseda said, "I want to visit my grandkids and take a cruise." Stewart won $95,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. Charles Roe, a retired Military member, from San Jose, won $10,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine and wants to treat his 83-year-old mother to something nice with his prize money.

Peggy Snell, a San Jose resident, is one of this week's top California Gold winners. Snell, who works as a food server, won $40,000 and said, "My sisters and I are going to take my parents out to breakfast, lunch and dinner in a limousine." She also plans to take her daughters shopping. John Clifford of Modesto was another top California Gold winner. Clifford, a car sales owner, won $40,000 and said, "I've got a lot of family members and friends that could use some help and I'm going to help them." Other California Gold contestants won $45,000.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52.5 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 6.6 percent for operating and game expenses, which includes 6.9 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
