"Big Spin® 2000" Contestants Win More Than $1.5 Million - Latest Weekly Grand Winner Announced

SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, March 25, 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $1,592,500.

Big Bear City resident Steven J. Alford bought a winning Big Spin Scratchers® ticket on his birthday that won him a direct trip to the Big Spin® 2000 show. Once at the show, Alford spun the wheel for a prize of $225,000. He won his way to the Big Spin wheel after winning in the California Gold segment of the show. Alford plans to buy his son an annual pass to Disneyland and his wife a new car. The other nine California Gold contestants won a total of $22,500.

Fantasy 5TM contestants won a total of $265,000 on this week's show. Pamela R. Campbell of San Jose brought a pound puppy with her to the show for good luck. Campbell won $80,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. "I've never taken a cruise anywhere," said Campbell. Campbell plans to take a cruise with her prize money.

Another lucky Fantasy 5 player won $70,000 playing the Dream Machine. " I'd like to go fishing and spend some money on my grandchild," said Cleo A. O'Campo of Hacienda Heights. O'Campo won $70,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. Ruth L. Ho of San Jose watches the Big Spin® 2000 show weekly. "I would like to share the money with family and friends," said Ho who won $60,000 at the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine.

Next up to play the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine was John A. Kemp from Fresno who won $55,000. "I want to buy a pretty pick-up and a computer," said Kemp.

Robert Walker of Los Angeles got 3 "Spin" symbols on his "Big Spin 2000" Scratchers® ticket. That ticket got Walker a direct trip to the show. Once at the show Walker spun the largest prize wheel in the world and won $40,000. Walker said he plans to pay off his mom's car and take a trip to Orlando with his prize money.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
