Turlock Resident Wins $100,000 On "Big Spin® 2000"
SACRAMENTO -- California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday, March 18, 2000 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $347,500.
Turlock resident Kent J. Walton, a receiving manager, volunteered to work overtime one Saturday and bought a High Roller Scratchers® on his way home. He had never bought one before that day but was glad he had! That Scratchers ticket won Walton a trip to the Big Spin 2000 show where he won $100,000. "I was never expecting to win that much," said Walton. Walton plans to buy his wife a new car with part of the money he won. Irene Young of Los Angeles won $5,000.
Fantasy 5TM Dream Machine contestants won a total of $120,000 on this week's show. Lightning struck twice for retired Superintendent Walter Ott of Ceres who was the top Fantasy 5 winner on this week's show, winning $70,000. This was Ott's second time playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine, he also won $80,000 in 1997.
Ronald Jackson of Oakland and Rozsa Toth of Hemet each won $25,000 playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. Jackson said he plans to help his parents and enjoy his money on a trip to the Bahamas whereas Toth, a homemaker, wants to visit her mom in Hungary.
" I want to remodel my home and take a trip to Spain," said Helen Toledo, a retired homemaker from Fremont. Toledo won $75,000 spinning the largest prize wheel in the world. Goleta resident Michael S. Covarrubias bought a winning Big Spin Scratchers ticket that won him a direct trip to the Big Spin® 2000 show. Once at the show, Covarrubias won $25,000 as this week's top California Gold winner.
The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
