Lucky Silver Dollar Brings Retired Army Master Sergeant $65,000 - Latest Weekly Grand Winner To Be Announced

SACRAMENTO -- The California Lottery's "Big Spin® 2000" show airs Saturday October 30, 1999 in twelve television markets statewide. Contestants on this week's show won a total of $1,322,500. The newest Weekly Grand winner who will receive $1,000 a week for the next twenty years will be announced on this week's show!

Retired Army Master Sergeant, Leonard Frost, from Marina brought his 1880 silver dollar to the show for good luck. " I want to buy a new Oldsmobile," said Frost. Frost, after playing the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine, won $65,000 and plans to buy his new car.

Two other Fantasy 5 players also had a chance to make their dreams come true. Kathleen Williams, proxy for Shari Hearn, a writer from Los Angeles, played the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine and won $65,000. Hearn plans to use her prize money for a down payment on a house.

"I want to take a trip to Australia and New Zealand with my wife," said Ronald Flewelling, at his chance up at the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. Flewelling won $60,000 and will now be going on vacation.

California Gold contestants had a chance to scoop up their share of prize money.

This week's top winner was Eduardo Khantzis, a shipping manager from Los Angeles. Khantzis's daughter gave him a Scratchers® ticket for Father's Day. "I got something," said Khantzis, and he was right. That Scratchers® ticket gave Khantzis a chance up at the largest prize wheel in the world. Khantzis spun the wheel and won $30,000. Khantzis considers himself lucky, this was not his first time winning, he previously won $40,000 ten years ago playing Fantasy 5. Other California Gold contestants won a total of $22,500.

The California Lottery sells its products through a network of more than 18,000 outlets statewide. The Lottery provides 52 percent of its revenues to players as prizes, 34 percent to public schools, and 14 percent for administrative expenses, which includes 6.8 percent for retailer commissions. Since 1985, the Lottery has raised more than $11 billion for public schools and has provided an annual average of approximately 38 percent of the Lottery's total revenues to schools. The California Lottery's contribution equals approximately 2 percent of the state's total education budget. "Big Spin® 2000" is the longest running Lottery game show in the country, airing continuously since 1985.
