SACRAMENTO – A Victorville man who claimed his $145,280 MEGA Millions prize plans to put his money into college funds for his children, take a nice vacation and perhaps invest the rest.
Carlos Arvizu, who owns a small business, said he is “very, very excited” about his windfall.
The winning ticket was purchased in Corona at the Arco-ampm, which is located at 702 East Sixth Street. The ticket matched five of six numbers, missing only the Mega number. Another winning ticket sold in Commerce has yet to be claimed.
MEGA Millions is played in 12 states, including California. Drawings are held on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $1 and can be purchased from any of the 20,000 Lottery retailers statewide (www.calottery.com/locations).
More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
