SACRAMENTO – A lucky retiree from Placerville has a half-million reasons to celebrate this Groundhog Day. That’s because his winning Daily Derby ticket earned him a $530,339 jackpot prize.
Norman Duffy said he considers his winning ticket “a good investment.” Other than “maybe” buying a new car, he has no immediate plans for the money.
“Money Bags” came in first place in Sunday night’s race and close behind were “Whirl Wind” in second and “Lucky Star” in third. Not only was the winner able to predict the top three derby finishers for Sunday night’s draw, but picked the race time of one minute, forty-two seconds and twenty-two hundredths of a second (1:42.22). The winning ticket worth $530,339 was purchased at Mother Lode Market at 6421 Mother Lode Drive in Placerville, just outside of Sacramento.
Daily Derby combines the fun and excitement of horse racing with several ways to win, including the chance to win twice on a single ticket! This unique game was the first horse racing themed game in the U.S. played on regular Lottery terminals.
