The Contestant Experience on Make Me a Millionaire
SACRAMENTO – The California Lottery’s new TV game show, “Make Me a Millionaire,” has revamped all its games and now features four state-of-the-art games that give contestants the opportunity to win a million dollars or more. On this week’s episode, more than $135,500 in cash and prizes was awarded to 12 contestants.
Each contestant attends a briefing the day before the taping at the Universal City Hilton. This gives Lottery Draw Management staff the opportunity to brief the contestants and select which game is played. On the day of the taping, contestants are notified what game they will play only moments before they step onto the stage. “It increases the excitement and suspense contestants feel on a day when a life-changing experience could occur,” explains TV Director and Specialist Sally Forcier.
Rodolpho Cortez, a mechanic from Arleta was the top winner on this week’s episode. He won $46,000. Cortez said he will put his money toward paying off his house. Both Sandra Ortega, from Fresno, and Celia Mercado, from Alameda, walked away with brand new cars.
With the progressive jackpot increasing $200,000 each week, next week’s contestants will have a chance to win $2 million.

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions.
