San Jose Man Wins Big

SACRAMENTO – A lucky San Jose man has won $276,955 from the December 2 drawing. He matched five of six numbers, missing only the Mega number.

The San Jose man, who wouldn’t release his name, admitted why the win was so special to him – it was the first time his wife actually heeded his Lottery advice.  “She uses her money from Scratchers wins to buy more Scratchers, and I always tell her to buy MEGA Millions or SuperLOTTO Plus instead,” he explained.  “This time, she actually listened to me.”

The man was out shopping to replace his wife’s broken laptop when she called to tell him about the winning ticket.

The couple plans to spend part of their winnings by donating to their church and finally buying that new laptop.

The MEGA Millions ticket was purchased at Hoang Piedmont Gas in San Jose. The retailer is located at 3295 Sierra Road. The winning numbers were 2, 17, 22, 32, 51 and the Mega number was 35.

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
