Playing for Others on the ‘Big Spin®’ Show
SACRAMENTO – Neil Wallace lives in El Segundo and joined contestants on the Big Spin show on behalf of his retired father Bruce Wallace. “We play as a team, so I found a way to weasel my way in to get on the big screen and be on the lotto show,” Neil said with a laugh. His father, Bruce, grew up in England and moved to Indiana before finally making his way to California in 1962. Neil went on to drop three balls on the Dream Machine for a total of $95,000. The grand total won by all contestants on this week’s episode of the Big Spin was $177,500.
Judi Ortega is retired and lives in Sacramento. She and her husband have been married for 46 years and are avid travelers. Judi told Lottery officials that the trick to a successful marriage “is to kiss whenever you say hello and goodbye and to make time for one another.” Judi and her husband hope to use the $40,000 won on the Dream Machine to fulfill a lifelong dream of visiting Tahiti.
Jim Creech is not the type of contestant typically seen on the Big Spin. While nearly all of the contestants are from California, Creech lives and works as a Bellman in Las Vegas. The story of how Creech ended up on the Big Spin Show began when he booked a limo for a hotel guest. The limo company doles out Scratchers® tickets as a way of expressing thanks. For Creech, the unexpected opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time. With his wedding a few months away, the $20,000 Creech won will help him pamper his bride on their honeymoon.

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
