Big Dream Machine Wins on ‘The Big Spin’ Show
SACRAMENTO – Peter Gomez lives in La Habra and has worked for the Rio Linda Unified School District for 14 years. With only three years until retirement, Gomez implied to Lottery officials that he was going all the way on the Fantasy 5 Dream Machine. Four balls, $50,000 up and one ball left to play, Gomez turned to his wife for counsel. “He’s got good luck,” his wife said to the audience and her husband. “Let him make the decision.” And his decision proved a good one as he sunk the final ball into the largest figure -- $40,000, netting $90,000 in total. The grand total won by all contestants on this week’s episode of the Big Spin was $210,500.
I. Walker Melson Jr., who prefers the nickname “I.W.” is a carpenter from Inglewood. For years his wife Denise suggested they take a cruise for a vacation. After winning $70,000 on the Dream Machine, I.W. conceded a cruise was likely.
Amanda Cantu, from Bakersfield, is studying to be a respiratory therapist. During the show, she repeated over and over, “This is such a lucky year for me.” A lucky year, indeed. Newly married on November 8 and with a new addition to the family on the way, Lottery officials observed Cantu’s shock when she walked away from the big wheel with $30,000 and saying, “This all feels like a dream and it just doesn’t feel real.”

More than 95 cents of every Lottery dollar is returned to the community in the form of contributions to education, prizes and retail commissions. The California Lottery contributes at least 34 cents of every dollar that players spend on Lottery products to public education and returns more than 50 percent of sales to players in the form of prizes. Since its inception in 1985, the Lottery has contributed nearly $21 billion to California schools out of total sales of more than $56 billion. Retailers benefit too, earning $3.6 billion in compensation since 1985.
