Unclaimed Prize Scam

The Security/Law Enforcement Division would like consumers to be aware of a current email scam being circulated as an unsolicited email worldwide.

If you receive an email regarding unclaimed funds or prizes from the California Lottery, please understand that this is an email scam. These emails are not generated by the California Lottery and are not authorized, sanctioned, or in any way related to the operation of the California Lottery. The email may suggest that you have won a prize or can help to claim prizes that have yet to be claimed, and may ask you to contact a designated representative with your personal information or for processing and to transfer prize money.

Do not fall victim to this scam. Similar scams have been in circulation for years, this is the first to directly relate itself to the California Lottery and its employees. The California Lottery never sends unsolicited emails, and never transacts business through email.

Please be aware that this is one of many fraudulent letters/emails circulating today. If you have any questions regarding a letter received through the mail or email, contact the California Lottery Security/Law Enforcement Division at 1-800- LOTTERY or 1-800-568-8379.
