International Lottery Scheme

The National Association of State and Provincial Lotteries recently alerted the 12 MEGA Millions partner states of a potential scam. The operation plans to approach lottery players to join an international lottery pool for the purpose of playing for a large Mega Millions jackpot.

"It has come to our attention that a company based in the Philippines is attempting to persuade players to pay more than $1 dollar necessary for a MEGA Millions ticket." said Bill Hertoghe, Director of Lottery Security and Law Enforcement Division.

"It is not legal to be a part of a bookmaking operation and consumers should only buy their tickets at one of the California Lottery's 18,500 authorized lottery retailers. This ensures that prizes are paid to players as specified in the rules and regulations of any lottery game, including MEGA Millions" said Hertoghe

Anyone approached by this entity is encouraged to contact the California Lottery Security and Law Enforcement Division at 1-800-Lottery.
